Goolwa & Victor Harbor

We decided to take some time out, so I took Jen and Luke on a mini road trip visiting Goolwa & Victor Harbor which were a favourite holiday spots that Dad used to take us when we were kids. We were fortunate to catch the third stage of the Tour Down Under which went through Goolwa ending at Victor.

Perhaps God is a poet
Who writes with words
Of flesh and bone and leaf and flower

Every hour of every day,
Words pour out of the poet’s heart,
And every word is beautiful,
And true and worth the telling.

And when each poem is perfect,
And there is no more which ought to be said,
The poet gently takes the words
Back into his heart, where they are safe forever…

And then begins again.

We received that dreaded call early in the early hours of the morning and it's uncanny how first you hear the phone and know somethings up as who rings at that time of the morning.

Sure enough it was my Sister In-law ringing through to inform us our Father had just suffered a heart attack and was being rushed to the Flinders Medical Centre.

From there on the following week was a roller coaster of a ride as he placed under an induced coma and as the week went on and as further tests were being taken reality was beginning to sink in.

We were trying desperately to get back to Adelaide during this time but due to my immigration process not being finalised were faced with not being able to leave as it would be seen as abandoning my application.

Some last minute frantic running around, help from family and the good grace of an immigration officer I was granted authorization and the following day we were on the next available flight.

Unfortunately we were unable to be there when they turned off his life support but were able to see him one last time and attend his funeral.

He was an incredible individual who selflessly gave the shirt off of his back to help those around him in need and I witnessed this numerous times through out his life. In the forefront of my memories will always be his love and devotion for my Mother who suffered from and eventually passed away from Muscular Dystrophy.

He was a very easy going, down to earth, hard working with a spirit full of adventure and will forever hold many fond memories growing up with him.

He will sadly be missed but always be remembered by those who were fortunate to know him.

Local Christmas Pageant

We wandered down to the local Xmas Pageant as Josh's Boy Scout unit was in the Parade this year. Thought it was a great little Parade put on by the local community and had that good old country feel about it.

The local Volunteer Fire Depts from various Towns, the local Police Dept, High Schools, Boy Scouts, Girls Guides, Football team, ROTC, Special Olympic athletes and various floats made their way around the local shopping centre here.

What's in store for Winter this year ?

Day time temps are starting to drop out there and we're experiencing a cold snap at the moment. Temperature here didnt get above zero all day and the current temp at the moment is -1C.

Was talking to a fella the other week who mentioned the Farmers Almanac predicted a colder than normal winter this year and sure does feel like it's come early at the moment.

Here's a video of our local weather guy and what he reckons is in store for us this year.

Thanksgiving - '08

This year we went over to Jen's sister Rondi's home to celebrate Thanksgiving. We spent the day with her partner Anthony, daughter Alleigh and her brother Chad.

It was a great afternoon with good company, relaxed with plenty of good food so much so we were back there the next day to help eat what was left over.
